Mathieu Mirano RTW FW2012 Mercedes Benz NYFW

Feb 12, 2012

Mathieu Mirano showed his ready to wear FW 2012 collection in the “Box” at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. A 20-year old dropout from Parson’s themed his collection based on fairy tale ideas of dragons, magic, and sun-like star bursts. Claw like patterns are found on some of the pieces, while others, are more basic and stoic.

The collection consisted of a regal evening gown and dress collection that evoked a hint of Russian princess. The castle-like atmosphere was further accentuated with classical music in the background and oversize gargoyle statues suspended above the models. Looks ranged from bright, angular, military structured dress and jacket combos to a long, black velvet gown that conceals the skin but amply reveals body form. The designer also incorporated leathers and furs as well as the all-too-popular metallics for this season, in particular an eye-grabbing gold.

A particularly interesting piece was the translucent silver gown that shimmered in the light. -Ana Pavlovic
