Metropolitan Opera Opening Night Gala in NY

Metropolitan Opera opened the season with Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore and hosted its Opening Night Gala party at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan, September 24. Despite being a Monday night, the red carpet didn’t dull. The Met displayed its broad range of celebrity fans from models, designers, socialites, to actors, athletes, rockers, and a chef.

The biggest surprise of the night was singer Courtney Love who walked the carpet in a stunning black gown. Former hedge fund manager turned socialite Julie Macklowe brought her dress’ designer Zang Toi to the party. Gossip Girl was well represented with Rufus actor Matthew Settle attending with his girlfriend and Michelle Trachtenberg wearing an elegant blue gown. New York Ranger goalie Henrik Lundqvist came with his wife while Knick forward Amar’e Stoudemire came in with his fiance who was wearing a million dollar engagement ring.

Designers came in droves. Diane Von Fursternberg was with hubby Barry Diller but gossiped with Oscar de la Renta for most of the evening. Zac Posen owned the carpet by bringing 2 stunning dates who were wearing his own creation. Jimmy Choo’s Tamara Mellon wore a beautiful nude-colored gown.

First time opera goers included actress Ari Gaynor who was escorted by Cheyenne Jackson. She almost had a wardrobe malfunction with her black dress. Also an opera first timer, Carlos Leon attended the opera but did not go to the party.

The guest list also included Celebrity Chef Katie Lee who wore a low-neckline dress. Howard Stern’s wife Beth Ostrosky came alone wearing a stunning red gown. Actress Maggie Grace made a statement with her fancy hat that partially covered her one eye. Model Jessica Hart kept tweeting about her night while singer Rob Thomas posted pics on his twitter.

And the star of the L’Elisir d’Amore, Soprano Anna Netrebko walked the carpet in her black gown with her husband despite having to perform that night. She always makes time for fashion.
